Smartswitch: Performance

It's important to understand that it's impossible to answer the question "How much simultaneous calls can Smartswitch handle?" definitely. The answer to this question depends on large amount of parameters. Starting from the protocols and codecs used and ending with average call duration (ACD). Here we'll try to give some approximate answer using our test stand.

To test performance and system behavour under load, modeling with call generator has been executed.

Stand configuration:

• CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4500 @ 2.20GHz (2208.29-MHz 686-class CPU);
• RAM: 2GB;
• HDD: SATA interface.

System configuration:

• inbound traffic points: 50;
• outbound traffic points: 50;
• Media Proxy: yes
• amount of prices on inbound traffic point: 10000;
• amount of prices on outbound traffic point: 10000;

Voice stream parameters:

• Amount of new calls, per second: 15;
• Call length (RTP): 3 minutes;
• Called numbers: random;
• Simultaneous active calls: 1000;
• Media codec: g729;
• Codec transcoding: no;
• Media pass-through: yes;
• Protocol transcoding: no.

Modeling was performed during 12 hours.

Modeling results:

• All calls were processed correctly;
• CPU load: 90%.

Conclusion: system is sufficient for usage by operators of beginner or intermediate level as it is. For those who need to process greater amount of calls, Smartswitch can be deployed as a multi-server cluster.
